I recently became the Executive Director of the World Network for Children.  A new, global non-profit committed to raising awareness and creating solutions for issues that affect children.  Just in time for Chille’s birthday during the month of May, we are launching Chille’s Cardiac Campaign to raise awareness about the number one birth defect in the world: Congenital Heart Defects.  Congenital Heart Defects affect more children in the United States than AIDS, cancer, and autism COMBINED and yet, there is no discussion, no dialog, no Oprah show about this horrible birth defect.  I believe that this is due to the fact that 50% of all diagnoses are made AFTER the child dies.  Two things MUST be done.  First, we must raise awareness.  Secondly, given its prevalence here in the United States, we must work towards non-invasive, simple screening of ALL newborns.  Chille’s Cardiac Campaign hopes to jump start this awareness and bring about change.  This campaign could not be closer to our hearts, as Chille has already endured two open heart surgeries before the age of 2 and is kept alive via a Medtronic Dual-chamber Pacemaker.  YOU can help make a difference in the lives of children throughout the world.  PLEASE donate to Chille’s Cardiac Campaign during the month of May and Help be a Hero for Children.
